What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average for an adult typist, 60–70 WPM is comfortably fast for office work, and 90 WPM and up is professional territory. Accuracy matters more than raw speed: 95% or better is the bar to hold.
How is WPM calculated?
One word counts as five characters. Gross WPM is all characters typed divided by five, divided by minutes elapsed. Net WPM counts correctly typed characters, so it reflects both speed and accuracy without making one typo erase a whole word.
Is the typing speed test free?
Yes. The test runs in your browser and needs no account. Sign in only if you want your results, records and weak-key analysis saved over time.
How can I type faster?
